Sara Ramirez

Sara Ramirez has been a Mexican American actor, performer and songwriter for a number of years. Sara Ramirez was brought up by her American mother and was subjected to a variety of racist taunts, which caused her to feel uncomfortable. When she went to an event at school and was given high praise for her singing at the age of 9, the girl began to feel more confident. The experience not only helped to boost her confidence, but also changed her goals in life. She graduated at the age of 22 with an education from the Julliard School in New York. When she was 23, her first Broadway show with Paul Simon's The Capeman, and her film debut You've Got Mail were both her big breaks. The most notable success of her career came in the role of The Lady of The Lake on Spamalot's initial Broadway production. She did not only receive the Tony Award, but her performance was also well-received by the critics. In the year following, she appeared on the ABC program Grey's Anatomy as Dr. Callie Torres and gained wider acceptance for the role. As a well-known singer, she also has released a song and a play. She is an activist who strives for LGBT equality.
